Solafeet Q and A

Q:

What is the difference between the Solafeet ST-400 foot tanner and the “Tootsie Tanner”?

A:

Foot tanning effectiveness is proportional to the square of the distance from the tanning bulbs. This means that skin 2 inches from the bulb instead of 1 inch from the bulb will receive one-fourth of the tanning effectiveness. Using reflectors only works if the reflectors are very close to the bulbs, since the light has to travel to the reflector and back, doubling the distance. So all of the foot must be as close to the bulbs as possible in order to achieve an even tan. A design like the “Tootsie Tanner”, with a light source over the top of the feet and reflective material under the feet, will not tan the sides, backs, or insides of the ankles. These are the areas most people want to tan.
Tanning bulbs also put out a lot of heat. This is why the Solafeet ST-400 utilizes a UV-transparent shield to protect the feet from the hot bulbs. Any good design (like all commercial tanning beds) should provide protection from the hot bulbs with a UV-transparent shield.

Q:

How many sessions will it take for my feet to become tan?

A:

Producing a tan from sunless feet takes 7-14 days of sessions, depending on the type of skin you have.

Q:

How long is each tanning session?

A:

We recommend tanning your feet with a 15 minute session after every round of golf.

Q:

Do I need to wear protective eyewear?

A:

Yes, the Solafeet ST-400 comes with a pair of goggles that can be worn, or, shield your eyes from direct or indirect exposure to the tanning bulbs with a non-translucent material such as a blanket or pillow over your knees.

Q:

Should I keep my feet completely still while they are in the tanning unit?

A:

No, insert both bare feet into the foot cavities, moving the feet around during tanning helps to achieve an even tan.

Q:

How long can my foot tanning session last?

A:

Consult the tanning chart in the instruction manual to determine the tanning exposure for your skin type.

Q:

Can I turn the tanning unit off before the time is up?

A:

To turn the tanning bulbs off before the end of the tanning cycle, rotate the timing dial counter-clockwise to the 12 O'clock position until it clicks.

Q:

What if my sock-line is higher than my ankle, will I be able to tan higher on my leg?

A:

The base of the ST-400 is removable to allow the top (containing the tanning bulbs) to be raised to the desired height.

Q:

What is the proper way to clean the Solafeet T-400?

A:

Use a mild detergent that does not contain oxidizing agents with a non-abrasive cloth.

Q:

How long do the bulbs last and what is the replacement cost?

A:

The bulbs will operate for 300 hours.
